Our Philosophy: Play to Win

"Play to Win" encompasses much of our jiu jitsu ethos. No matter the situation, position, score, or how you're feeling, we always give our best to win. This doesn't mean using maximum strength all the time; it means being aware of both your strengths and weaknesses, as well as those of your opponent, and using that knowledge to win.

FAQs

  • Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is a martial art that focuses on ground techniques, submissions, and leverage to defend oneself, regardless of size or strength. At our gym, we specialize in creating a welcoming and supportive environment for people of all experience levels, especially beginners. Whether you're looking to build confidence, improve fitness, or learn self-defense, our classes are tailored to meet your needs.

  • Not at all! Many of our members start with zero martial arts background. Our expert instructors guide you step-by-step, ensuring you're comfortable and confident as you learn. We also offer beginner-focused classes to help you ease into the journey.

  • During your first class, you'll be introduced to the basics of BJJ in a friendly and relaxed setting. All you need to bring is comfortable workout attire (or a gi if you have one), a water bottle, and a positive attitude!

  • Training at our gym goes beyond learning self-defense. You'll improve your physical fitness, reduce stress, build discipline, and join a close-knit community of people who share your passion for BJJ. Plus, our experienced instructors are committed to helping you achieve your personal goals, whether that’s competition, fitness, or fun.

  • It’s never too late to start Jiu Jitsu. We have adult beginners of all ages, including people in their 30s, 40s, 50s, and beyond. Jiu Jitsu can be adapted to suit your fitness level, goals, and mobility. Whether you’re looking to get in shape, learn self-defense, or challenge yourself mentally and physically, our coaches will help you progress at your own pace. Everyone starts as a beginner, no matter their age.

  • When people say "Jiu Jitsu" in the U.S., they’re usually referring to Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ). BJJ is a specific style of Jiu Jitsu that focuses on ground fighting, submissions, and positional control, and it was developed in Brazil from traditional Japanese Jiu Jitsu.

While Japanese Jiu Jitsu was originally a broader system that included strikes, joint locks, throws, and self-defense techniques, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu specializes in live sparring (rolling) and techniques that allow a smaller person to control and submit a larger opponent on the ground.

At Fourth Dimension Jiu Jitsu, we teach Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) with a focus on practical, effective techniques for both sport and self-defense.
